Actinic Keratoses

Over exposure to the sun can cause Actinic Keratosis, also known as Solar Keratosis. This is the most common form of precancer and can form as scaly or crusty bumps. Varying in color Actinic Keratosis may appear white, red, pink, light or dark tan.

These can be commonly found on areas of the body that are overly exposed to ultraviolet rays such as the face, lips, ears, scalp, shoulders, neck, back of the hands and forearms.

What Can I Do?

Protect yourself! Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen even when its cloudy, wear sun safe clothing and eyewear, seek shade when possible, avoid indoor tanning and do not get sunburned!

  • Topical medication

Only 5-10% of Actinic Keratosis turns into skin cancer but more than half of squamous cell carcinomas tend to start off as Actinic Keratosis
